Furniture quotations prepared in minutes instead of hours
Data from design drawings had to be read, re-entered and calculated manually according to rules that had never been formally documented.
Before
Quotations were prepared by an experienced employee who knew the calculation rules from practice, some of which had never been documented. Each quotation began with opening a design drawing and manually entering furniture dimensions and components into a spreadsheet. For more complex projects, this took several hours. If the key employee was absent, the quotation was delayed.
Discovery
The main requirement was to reduce the time needed to prepare a quotation and limit the number of manual calculations. We tested whether the data required for the calculation could be extracted from the designs and combined with the client's own pricing rules. Identifying and mapping rules specific to this company was an essential part of the work.
What we tested
- Extracting information from the design — can the solution read dimensions, furniture components and the data required for the calculation without an employee re-entering it manually?
- Calculating according to company rules — can the client's rules be mapped so that the result is a draft quotation ready for review and correction?
What changed
We built a pilot covering the full path from extracting components from the design to preparing a draft quotation. The result is exported to a spreadsheet and remains under the employee's control, ready to be reviewed and corrected.
Client decision
The client is interested in the solution and sees the potential to reduce quotation preparation time substantially.
